Ahhh, November… when my internal clock is telling me it’s time to slow down because the flowers have all been killed off by the frost and the daylight hours are so so short.
But there’s no time for rest on a farm.. there’s still tubers to be dug, bulbs to be planted and wreaths to be made.
It’s always so hard to enjoy the present in this field of work when it is so imperative to always be planning for the future. I spend the day swapping chores back and forth… winter, spring, winter, spring… and so forth..
Winter.. mulch those beds.. spring.. plant those bulbs.. winter.. get those tunnels on.. spring sprout those ranunculus.. winter.. cut those greens.. spring.. divide those perennials.. winter..collect those pinecones, twigs and vines.. spring.. start prepping the new beds.. winter.. clean up and put away hoes and rakes.. the tasks don’t seem to end.. but the beauty that comes from the endless tasks always rewards me.
I am also looking forward to some new offering this season to help brighten your days.. along with wreaths and holiday centerpieces, I plan to offer some specialty amaryllis this year! I have never been a fan of amaryllis to tell you the truth.. it’s red.. I am not a lover of red flowers..even Martha Stewart agrees! Ha! But... these amaryllis come in white, pink, and raspberry and yes.. even some red but they are all fully doubles. And doubles are always better than singles in the flower world if you asked me :)
I also snagged some paperwhites to offer! I love a narcissus to remind me that spring is around the corner..
I will have these items and more available on the website for farm pickup, local delivery, or come and visit me at the Ellington Farmers Market! I will be there with wreaths on November 23rd, outside of the entrance to Ellington High School, and then inside for the next two markets with paperwhites, amaryllis and dried flower ornaments..
Happy November all.. have a wonderful Thanksgiving and know that I am grateful for your support 🫶🏼
